Engaging Communities with their Heritage

Working in partnership with Faceless Arts and Groundwork Wakefield, the Knottingley & Ferrybridge Neighbourhood Network worked with around 250 people of all ages from across Knottingley & Ferrybridge, to deliver:

  • A Local Heritage Archive including interviews with local people and a short film about the history of the glass industry in Knottingley

  • A Touring Exhibition

  • Opportunities for people to take part in training, creative reminiscence sessions and casting workshops

  • A permanent display for the town about glass and its importance as an industry.

  • This web resource for the wider community to access

The project involved around 20 Volunteers from the local community in contributing to and recording oral history about the glass making heritage of the town of Knottingley.

As well as giving those volunteers a voice and their own place in the recorded history of their local area, it provided training for some in Oral history and creative reminiscence techniques

It engaged 150 local school pupils and young people in the town’s glass-making heritage

It made the project findings accessible to the public through a DVD, Website, teacher pack, and celebration events in the local community.
